I’m still not quite sure what led me from Northern Michigan to the Florida Institute of Hypnotherapy and Matthew Brownstein. But, I’m pretty sure I know the answer, and I am so thankful that of all the places I could have picked to pursue my certification in Clinical Hypnotherapy, that FIH is the one I chose. Matthew is a unique individual and an amazing teacher. His breadth of knowledge regarding hypnotherapy alone would be more than worth the tuition, but Matthew offers so much information and food for thought beyond the fascinating realm of hypnotherapy. I am an LCSW, and have been a psychotherapist for many, many years. I have spent most of my adult life helping people to heal their hurt and pain. And although I knew I had helped a great many people over the years, I began to feel “stuck” and somewhat frustrated. I knew there must be more I could do, but I felt I was at a stalemate. Then, by chance, I happened upon FIH. As they say, when the student is ready the teacher will appear. And so, almost impulsively, I enrolled in the school. I can honestly say that I was impressed and inspired by the depth and quality of the training, as well as the compassion, commitment and caring of all the staff and supervisors, especially Matthew himself. This has been a life-changing, and career-enhancing experience. I wholeheartedly recommend the Florida Institute of Hypnotherapy (FIH) as both a excellent school and clinic. The training is comprehensive, well-organized, and beautifully presented and graduates have been educated to be sensitive, effective hypnotherapists who treat the whole person, not just the symptoms. This orientation allows clients to reach their stated goals quickly and also go beyond them to achieve results such as increased overall vitality, deep serenity, and true comfort. My background as an Emei Qigong practitioner and healer gives me a somewhat unusual perspective: I am trained to work with body, mind, and spirit when healing. FIH also embraces a holistic vision. I had the fortune of meeting Matthew during my introduction to his Anahat meditation practice. He introduced me to his profession of hypnotherapy which seemed to be a powerful method to heal clients with mental and physical problems originating from false belief systems often acquired during childhood. In 2008, I was 71 years old and caught in a downward spiral of bereavement and troubling personal issues. As a retired medical technologist with 33 years experience in hospital lab work, I knew allopathic medicine couldn’t help me and decided to try hypnotherapy. I didn’t want to ‘spill my guts’ to a man, especially one so young, but I’d learned to trust Matthew from attending his Course in Miracles and meditation classes-so I gave it a try. Four months later and feeling better about life than I could ever remember, I got interested in learning more about hypnotherapy. So, in September 2009 I decided to take a big scary leap and sign up for Matthew’s 6-months school by spending money I’d saved to fix up my bathroom, and became the oldest student in his weekend classroom. This is one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself! Learning how to better control the inner workings of my mind, combined with Matthew’s beautiful spiritual perspective-experiencing this every weekend in a setting of love, fun and total safety with people who become like family-was absolutely priceless. I did this for my own personal growth but now that I see the possibilities it opens up I have to share it somehow. Take my advice and, if it intrigues you, don’t miss the opportunity to experience this wonderful journey for yourself.
Let me first of all say that I am a firm believer that all things happen in life for a reason. That if you live your life in the present and on a conscience, level everything happens in perfect order. As an intuitive, I first began investigating hypnotherapy programs as a way of “legitimizing” my intuitive private practice. I had been for years giving friends and family members readings as I had studied the intuitive arts for over 20 years, never venturing out to practice it in any professional sense up until this point. However in 2011, some friends that I had given readings for began suggesting to me that I seriously consider doing my intuitive work for a living. After giving it much thought, I decided to step out on faith and finally do it! So, as I was doing my due diligence in evaluating various hypnotherapy programs, I called The Florida Institute of Hypnotherapy and spoke with their Admissions Director, Asher Fox. He took great care in explaining the wide breadth of coursework that is covered in their hypnotherapy program and especially took time in explaining the transpersonal training available that would creatively and naturally tie into my intuitive practice. He educated me about the scope of hypnotherapy and how I could use it as a valuable adjunct to the private practice I was planning. My conversation with Asher was extremely enlightening as he continued to explained that the Florida Institute of Hypnotherapy was the FIRST Hypnotherapy program recognized by the Florida Board of Education. We all know there are plenty of “sign up for a couple of 2-day weekend seminars and get your hypnotherapy certification” programs out there and I was not looking for that. I value education and want to feel confident and proficient at whatever I set out to do. I sensed that this program would prepare me well. I was right! As I find myself 8 months into the program and ready to graduate in less than a month, I just celebrated the Grand Opening for my private practice last night. I began seeing clients the first week I opened my office. I had not yet completely unpacked and settled in yet, but my clients did not mind. People are thirsty for the knowledge on how they can better their lives and finding that knowledge while they are surrounded by boxes is apparently not a problem. It is now week three and I can honestly say that I feel completely fulfilled by the work I am doing. It is rewarding to be able to help others in a unique but real way. To witness a client’s transformation is truly a thing of beauty and I know for a fact that I would not be practicing the QUALITY of work that I do if I had sought my training elsewhere. The scope of information, quality of the practical time spent at TFIOH doing the “hands-on” work of the instruction received is simply priceless. Matthew Brownstein and FIH staff are all extremely well-qualified and gifted at what they do. They are totally available and present for the sole purpose of holding space for you and to help you move through the process of honing your skill level that will in the end, prepared you so well that day one of your private practice, you will hit the ground running. In addition to the transformational strategies received, they also provide instruction for how to successfully set up your private practice via marketing tools, business guidelines, ethics of practice, etc. They cover everything from A-Z and are invested in your success. Where does one begin in summing up my experience with the training I received from Matthew and his Team at the Florida Institute of Hypnotherapy, Tampa? One word would be TRANSFORMATIVE but in a nut shell, the training exceeded my expectations and the warmth, care and compassion of the Mentors, Class Mates and Teachers made the whole experience one I shall never forget. Now it is my turn to go into Practice and use my skills and training I have received to work with people who can benefit from my services. I can’t wait! The online recordings are excellent and although I have recently graduated, I am listening daily to older recordings and the meditation material. At the monthly practicals, you meet with your class mates who turn out to be your family. I learnt in order to be able to provide a quality service after graduating, I had to clear some issues/concerns I had within myself. I did this in the School through attending the practical sessions. As I have dealt with these issues, I can now move on with my life and focus on what I want to achieve. I am proud to say my new career path shall bring me job satisfaction in helping others achieve their goals and in this process make a decent salary from doing so. My husband and I just completed the training as clinical certified hypnotherapists. It has been an interesting and altogether awesome experience. R.G. was simply looking for an alternative vocation after losing much of his visual acuity to a detached retina and I was curious about what he was getting into–being the skeptical one, I thought I’d take only the first months of training just to make sure he was not getting into a scam. What I found was a detailed, extensive, and complete preparation for a new vocation for both of us. Now we are opening a joint practice and my goal is to leave my “real job” as an audiologist within the next year and focus full time on hypnotherapy.
Florida It truly was amazing! I have accomplished a great deal in my life yet going to your institute was one of my best decisions I have ever made! My practice is going very well. I see clients every week either at my work or in my office. It is a very exciting time for me.
It was almost a year before the chronic pain in my left thigh drove me to my first experience of hypnotherapy. After having this pain for several months, I noticed a bizarre pattern; every time I drank coffee my thigh would inflame. Unwilling to give up my all-time favorite drink, I switched to organic coffee and cut back to one cup a day. This helped for a short while, but relentlessly, the pain returned. After eight months of agony, I began to limp. Then, while visiting the Florida Institute of Hypnotherapy, Executive Director Matthew Brownstein explained to me the benefits of hypnotherapy. When I told him about my chronic pain, he offered to demonstrate the profound effect of this tool. To my amazement, within ten minutes, he healed the pain completely by transforming the underlying beliefs. The pain never returned and I still drink my coffee. I had so many funny ideas about hypnosis because of what I’ve seen on TV. What I experienced that day could not have been more different than the media portrayed of hypnosis. I have since attended the Florida Institute of Hypnotherapy and am continually inspired by the profound impact this healing tool has on the people who use it. The most rewarding thing this career is seeing my clients achieve their goals so quickly. I have helped people with insomnia, chronic pain, depressed and anxious feelings, weight loss, smoking, grief, low self-esteem, and other life-draining issues. I have personally received incredible healing from hypnotherapy and feel more grounded than I ever have before. Hypnotherapy can help anyone with any goal.”
Here is an update on my client that had the stroke in 2004. I have worked with her on 8 sessions now with an amazing break through and this reiterates confirmation of my driven path into healing. Parts therapy has brought out so many things to the surface – She loves music and used to play the piano for her Church – part of her wants to forget and part of her wants the feeling she had back then – she loved her music and has not played since her stroke. Today’s session I left her with some homework which is to look out her piano music and on Friday she is going to play the piano with one hand……. oh Matthew I know you are not meant to get emotional about clients but this woman has come on so much since our sessions. Her and her husband actually went out last Friday to a neighborhood gathering and she had her makeup on, hair lovely and jeans on ……..what happened to the old sad lady who never moved from her chair??? She is doing so well listening to her programming cd’s every night and now has a good collection – her special place is the Beach – it is so real when I facilitate the sessions as I close my eyes and go to her place with her … absolute heaven. Word has spread around the village where I live and I am so busy. Cannot believe the feedback and the clients are saying that I personalize their session and they feel it is all about them and only them. So far I have dealt with the smokers; over eaters; lack of confidence; anxiety; stress, stroke, pain management and now I have had a phone call from yet another medical referral.
My last night in the States seemed like a good moment to write this email. I had some time to be able to reflect on the whole experience you’ve given me and therefore feel what I’m saying is more objective. I really enjoyed being able to participate in the FIH training. It led me to discover a whole area of life I had never even imagined exists. As a consequence I feel that I have grwon and gained a huge amount of experience. I thank you for the profesional attitude which you exhibit and with which you handle your school. The quality of education strikes me as being very high. I say this also as someone who has participated in lots of different educational programs in lots of different countries.
I can honestly say my time at The Florida Institute Of Hypnotherapy was the most amazing and remarkable experience I have ever had. Studying with Matthew changed my life. Both personally and professionally, my experience at FIH was truly transformative. Matthew, this was the most amazing 6 months!! It was no doubt the BEST most thorough training I could have ever hoped for, taught in a space of love, trust, healing and much laughter! This training has been instrumental in the evolution of services that I now offer to clients. I see myself as a healer, and in that healing process, I, myself, have grown so much. The training is clear, concise, and in its weekend format, available to those who work during the week. The instruction is superb – well-organized and professional; but it is the spiritual basis of the course, which I’ve not found elsewhere in hypnotherapy training, that is truly transformational in the life. Wow Matthew, I just wanted to share a BIG THANK you. Why? Well, last night I had my first Workshop. The workshop was titled “Spirits & Readings” but as we all know when we come in for an “issue” it is never what we are really there for… I found my entire workshop based on my Hypnotherapy Education/ Teachings. The feeling I came with and left with after the workshop was Phenomenal! Why? Because I got to see shifts/changes within 3 hours, not with one individual but with more than half, maybe all. I have been mentoring a potential business partner and working with clients in my office but never imagined the bar BEING this high. As I was speaking with my daughter today about the experience, I said “I don’t know when this shift occurred in me”. She said, “I know exactly when”… When you joined FIH. She pointed out all the aspects such as: you had personalized support, like-minded individuals who had the same desires and goals -to help, heal, & teach others to better their lives, a school that trusted in you and knew YOU had what it takes. Originally, I intended to come to The Florida Institute of Hypnotherapy to acquire some helpful tools for my main career path towards Doctoral Psychology. I had plans of moving down to Florida to acquire the basic 300 hours, earn my Hypnotherapist certificate, then return home in the spring to attend Graduate School. Yet, on a break from Hypnotherapy classes, I traveled back home to set up all my upcoming graduate classes, but something didn’t feel right. My original path was shadowed by my overwhelming desire to continue my career in Hypnotherapy. I dropped out of upcoming graduate school and decided to remain at The Florida Institute of Hypnotherapy for all 500 hours, and I am eternally grateful I made that choice. Not only did I discover my true passion in life through such brilliant teachings, but I also discovered a Spiritual peace of which I had never previously known. Matthew did not impose any Spiritual teaching upon me, but after a great deal of reflection, I embraced the peaceful loving teachings he offered. I have been in social services for nearly 20 years, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for 5, and have long known that hypnosis, and its related modalities, were key tools in effecting change and growth. I had been collecting an education on it for years, including several courses on basic and advanced hypnotherapy. These classes met the state requirements for practicing hypnosis but did not foster any confidence in my personal use of the techniques with clients. I was seeking a solid grounding in hypnosis and a place to become confident in those skills. I found both in Matthew’s classes, and more. The experiential nature of the class, and the superb supervision is tremendous training, and rare. This is the most Powerful class I have ever taken. Why? This is hard to explain, but I will do my best to put it simply: It had been months since I had an intense spiritual awakening. It was beautifully life-shattering, but of course, time moves on, and I needed answers. And so, I was introduced to Matthew due to an intense longing for Truth – I was seeking guidance. I approached Matthew with the idea “Maybe this guy can shed some light on what happened?” What I got was so much more – a Path, a Teacher, a Group to practice with, and, for the purposes of this testimonial, a Career. The reason this background is important is because the classes at The Florida Institute of Hypnotherapy not only answered many of my spiritual concerns, but actually used the principles in a career to serve humanity! Just wanted to say thanks for the most enlightening six months of my life. Just the growth made it worth twice the price, adding a career helping others for an excellent income to the mix made it beyond any calculable monetary value.
The 6 months, in the beginning, looked too long, it was a big commitment, driving over 200 miles and leaving my 8-year-old daughter behind every weekend, but it was very well worth it. Whether you are looking for personal, professional, emotional or spiritual growth, it’s all wrapped in one, and done so wonderfully! Something transforms and something shifts, you may realize it then or it may dawn upon you later. The complete curriculum is very well organized and planned and a lot of information is provided, the practical sessions and demonstrations make you ready to step in the world with full confidence and knowledge. Of course, you have to keep upgrading. If I have to pinpoint one thing, I would say each student begins or starts from where he/she is, and Matthew does it so wonderfully and so easily, that it appears that it’s a one-on-one class. It’s amazing, a class of students and yet it’s a1:1 teaching and experiencing!? You’ve got to experience it to believe it. I love the Student Resources Section Online, which is such a great help and also the Teacher Associates who are so ready to help and guide you. Taking this course, listening to your teachings, listening and feeling your answers to our sometimes confused thoughts, sharing the group’s deepest feelings, all of these has made this life to make sense for me, finally. You gently and lovingly guided us into seeing ourselves as who we really are and I feel that this is what this course is all about. Not just teaching hypnosis techniques, which by the way you deliver beautifully, but to open the door to a realm of Love and Peace inside ourselves. I understand now that only from that place I can help others to heal. You gave me the knowledge and the tools, not only to help others but to heal myself. There is no going back from the place of Joy that I am now. You live your words and that was a profound insight for me. There are no hidden agendas on you and that creates a sense of Love and Security around you that makes the time of learning a desired and expected one. I am missing those times already.
