The Power of Various Styles of Hypnosis

Many people understand hypnosis and hypnosis trainings to be only about inducing hypnosis in a classical manner with the model that is considered more direct and more paternal, however there are many other ways to induce hypnosis that are gentler, more creative, and also sometimes more covert, where the client does not really even know that hypnosis is beginning to occur.  Learning many styles of hypnosis allows you to be more effective with more people as not everyone responds in the same way.  Read more here about the various styles of induction and how to learn hypnosis in a comprehensive and thorough way.

Learning to Induce Hypnosis in the Classical Model

In the traditional model of hypnosis, we have one person hypnotizing another.  This style is often more direct in the sense that a person was told what to do and they were expected to do it.  If they did not respond, then the client would be said to be non-responsive or even resistant.  The unfortunate thing about this limited way of working is that a direct style can be quite effective on some, but not on others and that the person is not necessarily being non-responsive or resistant, but rather needs a different approach to access their own natural hypnotic state of mind. The Classical Model, therefore is only one of the ways that we can get someone to go into hypnosis and therefore we need more tools in our bag-of-tricks.

Learning to Induce Hypnosis through Other Styles

Beyond mere direct suggestion, we can learn hypnosis and induce an altered state through indirect suggestions, non-verbal suggestions, covert suggestions, or maternal or permissive suggestions.  Hypnosis can also be induced through conscious mind overload, confusion or even boredom. These alternative styles of hypnosis usually require more thought and creativity on the part of the hypnotherapist, yet they allow for a greater range of flexibility to help more people.  Some people will respond better to a more permissive and maternal style, while others will do better with more non-verbal cues and a more covert style.  This brief article cannot explain all of these styles in depth, yet when you learn hypnosis you want to be familiar with all of the many ways of inducing the hypnotic state to ensure the greatest levels of success with your clients.

How do I know what style to use or what style of hypnosis to learn?

You should learn as much as you can about how to put someone into hypnosis.  To help people to reach their goals, you have to be the more flexible element of the relationship.  You never want to make someone feel that they are doing it wrong or that they cannot go into hypnosis.  We like to say that there are no poor clients, but only poorly trained hypnotherapists.  Virtually anyone who can make it into your office can be hypnotized and therefore has tremendous potential in reaching their goals.  Through proper training, you will learn which styles to use and when, so that your clients can feel that they are always doing well and are always succeeding.  We cannot promise anyone that we can always help them, yet we can significantly increase the chances of their success if we learn more and practice a lot. With over 500 hours of training, you can rest assured that you will be well-prepared to help the vast majority of people who come to you with issues that hypnosis is known to work on.
