Hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Training

country road

The altered state of hypnosis has been known to help us to influence the subconscious mind to create positive changes in our lives, yet there are also many related modalities that can allow for change to occur without a formal trance induction.  While the founders of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) understood a great deal about hypnosis, they also pioneered ways to make shifts within the mind without having to use the classical hypnosis model.  This brief article will explore the nature of NLP in hypnosis training and how it can benefit Hypnotherapists and others in the care-giving professions.

What is NLP?

NLP has been defined as a way of thinking that leaves behind a trail of techniques, which is to say that the founders of the system, Richard Bandler and John Grinder, started to use their minds in ways that helped to model the successful ways of being of those who were already successful.  They observed and studied with many great minds and basically asked them how they to what they do.  However, they did not just ask about the actual doing, yet rather about the actual thinking.  They wanted to know how these successful people structured their inner reality and also, they wanted to know how to duplicate that in themselves and in others.  They succeeded, and they left behind a trail of techniques that are still in use to this day in not just the fields of Hypnotherapy and Hypnotherapy Training, but also in sales, leadership and corporate work.

How can NLP enhance my Hypnosis Certifications?

The more tools that you have in your bag of tricks, the better you will be in helping others.  NLP helps to enhance one’s hypnosis practice by allowing for a greater degree of flexibility and understanding when working with clients.  For instance, a major NLP presupposition is that the more flexible force will be the controlling element of any given relationship.  This means that the more you can adapt to your client, the more responsive your client will be.  Therefore, instead of telling someone that they are not hypnotizable (which by the way is a terrible thing to do), the NLP trained hypnotherapist can shift styles or bring in other modalities that allow the client to reach his or her goals.

NLP works to change the structure of how we organize our minds more so than working to change the content of the subconscious mind.  This means that NLP cares about how you think now and not necessarily what happened to you in your childhood.  There is great benefit in understanding the difference between changing structure and changing content and knowing when we would want to adopt one way of thinking over another.  NLP teaches us that there is always another way to look at things and that shifts in the mind can make major shifts in our lives.  No one style is better or worse than another, yet knowing multiple styles and applying them as necessary helps us to be better facilitators for those that we are honored to be of service to.

When you learn hypnosis with us, you also learn a fair amount of basic and master level NLP techniques and philosophies that will enhance your overall practice.
