What can you do with a Hypnotherapy Certificate?

Hypnotherapy is a profession, yet getting certified as a hypnotherapist is not necessarily the same as getting a degree and then getting a job.  It is important to understand what it takes to truly learn hypnosis and to then become successful as a well-trained hypnotherapist with legitimate credentials.  Read more to learn about just what you can do with a certification in hypnotherapy.

Understanding Certification

It is important to understand the difference between a diploma and a certification.  School’s that are licensed by their respective State’s Department of Education are legally allowed to offer diplomas in a federally acknowledged profession.  Hypnotherapy is acknowledged as such and therefore your first step is to be sure to attend a school that is State-Licensed.  The Institute of Interpersonal Hypnotherapy is the first, and currently, only school in Florida to offer such credentials and there are only a handful of school’s around the Country that are operating at this level.

These diplomas are also considered certifications according to the Department of Education.

There are however other certifications that come from hypnotherapy associations.  These are simply self-regulating bodies that offer member benefits.  There are well over two dozen of these organizations and each has different standards for what is required to be certified by them.  These certifications are not required, yet they show that you are part of an organization that holds you accountable to certain educational and professional standards.

These include:

  1. Hours of Training:  We recommend at least 300, and ideally 500 or more.
  2. State-Licensure:  Only support associations that require State-Licensure of their schools
  3. Clear Code of Ethics
  4. Clear Professional Client Participation and Disclosure Agreements
  5. Active Law and Legislative work to protect the profession of Hypnotherapy.

Now what can I do with legitimate credentials in the field of Hypnotherapy?

Most graduates go into private practice.  Hypnotherapists tend to not go out and get jobs, yet rather they obtain their own office and bring in their own clients.  The beauty of this is that you can be your own boss, make your own hours, choose how much you feel you deserve to be paid per hour (our graduates are encouraged to charge $75 to $90 per hour and to do two hour sessions), and you can choose how many clients you want to see per week (we encourage graduates to see 10 to 20 clients per week).  While no school can guarantee your income upon graduation, simple math reveals that 10 clients per week at $150 per session is $1,500 per week and 20 clients per week is $3,000 per week.

How do I get my clients?

A good education in Hypnotherapy should include solid Business and Practice Management Training, as well as up-to-date Advertising and Marketing Training.  Our Institute offers 20 hours of training on these topics with additional mentoring after graduation for those who are interested.
