The true career of a certified hypnotherapist is a constant act of forgiveness. In our profession, we practice forgiveness within ourselves, and we teach it to all our clients. Aside from helping ourselves and others to reach their goals with hypnosis, we can understand the deeper principle of Interpersonal Hypnotherapy by understanding the very important role that forgiveness plays in our work. Why Emphasize forgiveness?
Simply stated, we teach forgiveness because that is what we most need to learn. We might think that hypnosis training is all about inductions, deepening and programming, yet real healing is a process of transformation, not just a mere fixing of symptoms. To get to the underlying root of our problems, we must know what to do when the core issues within the subconscious mind are brought to consciousness. Once we discover that our deep-seated troubles are rooted in unforgiven relationships, we come to learn that all true transformational work must be rooted in true forgiveness.
What is True Forgiveness?
The root of our problems, as shown in the deepest hypnotherapy models, speaks of what we call Initial Sensitizing Events (ISE’s). An ISE is a memory held within the subconscious mind, where a past event remains unresolved. This part of the mind is therefore “younger” than our present-day sense of self. The perceptions of this unhealed part of our psyche always involve a relationship with someone else. This can either be the person (or persons) that hurt us, or it could be a relationship with the person (or persons) that did not give us comfort during a time of need. To bring this relationship back to a state of love, we inevitably must forgive and let go of our outdated and troublesome perceptions from the past.
What happens with Hypnosis Training and True Forgiveness?
When we learn hypnosis, and become a certified hypnotherapist in the model of Interpersonal Hypnotherapy, we learn to let go of the limited way we see things as we embrace a much healthier and saner worldview. By letting go of our egoic way of seeing the world, we can, through forgiveness, embrace a way of seeing that fosters love, healing, kindness, and inner peace. True forgiveness is a joyful releasing of perceptions that no longer serve us. It is a shift that occurs within the mind that has a powerful effect upon the body, mind, and emotions. When such shifts occur, the ripple effect in our lives and the lives of others is significant and we are never the same. Through forgiveness we realize that everything we want is available to us, as the miracle that returns us to truth does indeed set us free.
