What is NLP and how can it help a Hypnotherapist?
For those interested in the power of the mind, the natural choice of study would be hypnotism, hypnosis, and hypnotherapy. By learning about the subconscious mind, its functions, and how to mobilize it for positive change, hypnosis training is truly beneficial.
However, NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is a powerful adjunct to a hypnotherapy practice and when getting your hypnosis certification, it can be truly beneficial to study and master NLP as well.
Read more here about what is NLP, how it can help a hypnotherapist, and how it can improve many other aspects of your life as well.
What is NLP?
Neuro-Linguistic Programming is hard to define. The founders, John Grinder and Richard Bandler have referred to it as a way of thinking that leaves behind a trail of techniques.
The idea is that human excellence is achievable for anyone, yet we must be able to model the mental processes of those who are already successful. Bandler and Grinder studied great minds, such as Milton Erickson, Fritz Perls, and Virginia Satir to find how why they were brilliant at what they do.
They discovered and pioneered many techniques that help us to duplicate in our own minds what exceptional people do. The presupposition is that everyone has all the resources they need to be successful, yet they need to learn how to tap into those ways that others have.
This way of thinking has left us hundreds of techniques and ways of processing others which lead to powerful and positive change.
How can NLP help a Hypnotherapist?
There are countless ways to improve your abilities as a hypnotherapist with NLP.
NLP listening skills are amazing for our intakes, short NLP procedures supplement hypnotherapy protocols, and overall, our communication skills improve the more we learn about NLP language patterns and what are called Meta-Model Violations.
A Meta-Model could be defined as the way someone structures their mind and how they perceive reality. Within most people’s models, they have ways of thinking that are not helpful, such as over-generalizations, deletions, and distortions.
NLP helps us to see what a person is doing within their mind that causes them suffering and gives us the skills to resolve those patterns. To bring this way of thinking into hypnosis training and practice can help anyone to be far better in helping their clients.
We have an NLP Certification course coming up on September 3rd that you should register for if you’re serious about improving your ability to help your clients through hypnotherapy! Click here to learn more!
How Can NLP Improve Other Aspects of Your Life?
We all interact with others, yet we are seldom taught to build rapport and to properly communicate. A major presupposition in NLP is that communication is not what we intend to say, yet rather the response that we elicit.
By learning about the structure of language and why people respond as they do, we can better help our family and friends to harmonize with us, rather than against us.
By learning how to communicate consciously and to have the skills to transform that which is not working, we can help those in our lives to live far better lives.
We can always apply these techniques to ourselves and the personal empowerment that this brings is always worth taking the time to engage in this line of study.
Our next NLP training with Dr. William Horton, founder of the National Federation of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, is being held online from September 3rd to the 6th. Click here to register.
