In the model of Interpersonal Hypnotherapy there are some basic presuppositions that lead to our unique style of hypnosis. Together we will explore how hypnosis training, when rooted in deeper wisdom traditions, becomes an exceptionally deep, meaningful and rewarding experience both during the training and also once a student graduates and begins seeing clients. When everything is rooted in forgiveness, oneness, love and compassion then we experience a very different model of what it means to simply learn hypnosis.
The altered state of consciousness, called hypnosis, is wonderful because it gives us access to parts of our mind that we would otherwise find inaccessible to every day conscious awareness. In the deep recesses of our subconscious mind we find layers of unresolved memories, deep-seated hurts, fear, anger, grief and guilt. These memories and emotions lead to all sort of undesirable behaviors and symptoms. For many years now, hypnotherapy training was aimed at teaching the student to find the root cause of a client’s problems through hypnotic regressions to find the memories that caused these problems. This simple and effective model has been the basis for most certification in hypnosis.
The major difference between hypnotic regression and the Interpersonal Hypnotherapy model is that Interpersonal Hypnotherapists are trained in one major presupposition that comes from A Course in Miracles, which teaches that there is only one problem and only one solution. The problem is stated to be an unforgiveness within the mind where an experience of separation from another person has occurred. The solution is said to be true forgiveness within this relationship. Therefore, in the regressive style of hypnosis in Interpersonal Hypnotherapy we are more focused on healing the relationship, rather than healing the memory. This simple reframe in the way that we see hypnotic regressions truly changes everything about the work that we do.
By honoring the model of oneness as the underlying ground of all being, then we can see that when we feel separate from others that we will inevitably feel separate from the whole. By returning the heart (subconscious) and the mind (conscious) to love through forgiveness, then profound healing occurs and cascades into multiple levels including the mental, emotional, physical and the relationship itself – even beyond time and space.
