In the 13th century there lived a great poet and scholar named Jalal Ad-Din Muhammad Rumi whose poetry has become beloved all around the world. Because the writings are so deeply inspired by his own direct experiences along the spiritual path, they resonate deeply with our own longings to know the Divine and to live in a place of peace and joy, and even in the mystical ecstasy as experienced by the great poet himself.
Hypnotherapy is not religious nor spiritual in and of itself, yet it lends for an easy integration into anything that we do and anything that we love. It can serve as an adjunct to an already established therapy or spiritual practice, or it can be infused with what we have gained from our therapies or from our spiritual practices. Rumi is one of those rare souls who has written so beautifully of Divine Love that just to read his words can change our lives and our practices forever.
Rumi wrote, “Let the beauty we love be what we do.” For many of us, Hypnotherapy has become what we love to do. We love it because it makes us feel good and we love it because it helps others to feel good. We all long for love and inner freedom. When we infuse our hearts and minds with the spirit of Rumi, our Hypnotherapy practice can come to life with what true devotion really means and what Rumi danced ecstatically about.
In Transpersonal Hypnotherapy, we learn about past-life regression, and our hypnotherapy training takes the time to go into the theory of the transmigration of the soul. In this model, the soul does not only incarnate within human forms, yet it is said to have moved from more simple forms to more complex; so that someone could do a regression and find themselves to be a plant or a tree. On this Rumi wrote: “I died a mineral, and became a plant. I died a plant and rose an animal. I died an animal and I was man. Why should I fear? When was I less by dying?”
From my personal experience, I have found that Hypnotherapy is always made better off when it is infused with the wisdom of those who have walked the spiritual path before us. When we listen to the wisdom that comes from great poet saints or from any voice that is wiser than our own minds, then it benefits us and our clients tremendously. In Rumi, we find a source of inspiration for ourselves and our clients that can only make our hypnotherapy education that much more beautiful and that much more ecstatic.
