Many of us struggle day-to-day wondering why we are here on this planet. We long for a life that has value and meaning. Many are spiritual seekers longing for deeper truths, while many just suffer and want to be free. From the many forms of questioning we inevitably want to feel that our lives mean something.
It has been my personal experience that a life without service to others can feel exceptionally meaningless. From the perspective of Zen philosophy, we all inevitably come to the place where we humbly admit how little we really know. It is said that you are only allowed to enter the gates of the monastery when you are stupid enough to do so. The Buddha, in his enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree, found that there we no solid answers for the ego to hold on to, but there was an overwhelming compassion that led to service to others.
In the field of Hypnotherapy Education, where we learn hypnosis, hypnotism and hypnotherapy itself, we discover new truths about ourselves and about the nature of the universe in general. We start to see worlds open up to us that were never known before as we explore the subconscious mind and all of its mysteries, yet in the end we simply want to be at peace and to know that our lives mean something. If you are reading this blog entry now, then perhaps you understand the uncertainty of life, yet also wish to do something that makes your life worth living and to make a living in a career worth loving.
In being of service to others through Hypnotherapy, we are empowered with techniques that offer true, valuable and lasting change in people’s lives. Every day, a hypnotherapist can go into his or her office and greet a client from a place of love, compassion and service. While not claiming any grand wisdom or profound certainty, the hypnotherapist can assist another to be more whole, clear, happy and free. The hypnotherapist is also blessed by the process. At the end of a session, the client and the hypnotherapist both walk away better off. Perhaps they cannot claim to know the secrets of the universe and the WHY of it all, yet they know they have touched each others lives in a way that was indeed truly meaningful and purposeful.
In Interpersonal Hypnotherapy, this connection becomes the essence of the work. In the midst of an infinite universe and on a planet with over seven-billion people, in every hypnotherapists office miracles occur and the one who became a hypnotherapist walked away that much better off for the experience.
