What is Devotion?
In Hinduism, and more specifically in the branch of Yoga known as Bhakti Yoga, we have this idea of Bhakti or Devotional Love. Bhaktas are lovers. They are lovers of all sentient beings – plants, animals, humans, non-physical beings, and the Divine itself. Bhaktas are similar to what the Sufis call “friends to the heart of the human race.” Those with a heart of devotion learn to be gentle, kind, simple, caring and loving. Devotion is often considered to be one of the highest religious ideals in that the path of devotion is rooted in love, and love is always the right choice, which we can make over and over again – especially right here and right now.
